Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I Soon to be Released on Nook and Kindle

I (Christopher) must really like this graphic, because I have used it for the last three posts. Well, as we prepare ourselves to depart 2011 (those who have not already begun the new year… lucky), I realized there was one goal for 2011 that I had not yet accomplished. As you may recall, we recently re-released Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I in print, but I had forgotten to do eBook versions. Well, today, this last day of 2011, I completed that goal. I just submitted Morrigan’s Brood r2 for Kindle and Nook platforms, although it may take up to two days for the eBooks to be on-sale. Still, I can brush my hands of this book stuff for a while… Who am I kidding… I have a novella to read, a re-release of Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II to revisit, and then I need to get Curse of Venus: Morrigan’s Brood Book IV ready for release. Uhhhh… no rest for the weary or the wicked.

Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I For Sale

Happy Boxing Day, and of course Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and have a happy any number of other mid-winter holidays going on the world over, or just a happy day to those without such traditions. For this Boxing Day, and the aforementioned holidays, the authors of the Morrigan’s Brood Series (um… Heather and I… uh… Christopher) have coaxed our publisher into putting up five copies of the new second edition of Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I, being officially released January 15, 2012. This second release, through Triscelle Publishing’s new printer and distributor, Lightning Source (LSI), presents an opportunity for our readers to purchase Morrigan’s Brood for a price lower than the original release. [Morrigan's Brood r1 sold for a retail price of $18.99 USD, whereas Morrigan's Brood r2 sells for a retail price of $15.99 USD]. The new release also includes new content, such as a map guide, a character guide, and more blood-drinker races, it has a new layout, and it received a bit of a brush-up.

Already, places like Amazon and Barnes & Noble are starting to carry the new release on their on-line catalogs. In fact, Barnes & Noble is carrying the new Morrigan’s Brood for $9.40 USD!!!!!! That’s [as advertised] 41% off the retail price of $15.99. Click here to check it out. Amazon is also carrying the new release, but it seems as though its content is not yet synched up. Click here to see the new release on Amazon for as low as $11.54 USD [though I wouldn't be surprised to see it under $10 USD from time to time].

If you would like an author-signed copy, you can order directly from the authors. We charge $15.99 plus sales tax [based on Harris County, Texas rate, which is 9.25%], and we also charge for shipping. Our preferred shipping is via USPS Priority Mail, which is $4.99 domestic and $14.99 for international, but if you don’t care when it gets there, media mail is generally $2.50 or so domestic; best to use Priority Mail for international.

New Cover

Greetings friends, fans, followers, and friendly frequenters! I knew you were dying to hear new news from your friendly neighborhood authors of the Morrigan’s Brood Series. Well, we have been busy (my [Christopher] excuse for the vast stretch of time and space between now and when I wrote my last post), and I wanted to share three tidbits of news with you. In summary, re-release, interview, and events. That’s the news… thank you for reading!

Ah… and there is that |More tag. Fooled you… yes, I have more to tell you about our three little news items… and here they are:

First, the Re-Release

A few of you on Facebook have already gotten a taste of this news, but in case you missed it, Triscelle Publishing has re-released Morrigan’s Brood, the first novel of our series, through a new printer. The new release, intended to reduce costs and increase distribution, comes with a slightly updated cover, and updated map, new map description page, new character bios, updated blood-drinker information, and a new look. In addition, the co-author and I took time to give the text a bit of a rubdown. The new edition [9781937341008] should be available for ordering on-line within the next four to six weeks, while the prevision edition [9780615340425] will be phased out of publication at a later date.

Triscelle Publishing has set the retail price for the new edition at $15.99 USD, as compared to the previous edition retail price of $18.99. In addition, booksellers have been given a substantial sellers discount, so don’t be surprised to see the book on sale for $9.99 USD, or even as low as $8.99 USD, on sites like Amazon, B&N, and Books-a-Million.

In addition, Triscelle Publishing will also re-release Crone of War through the new printer, with similar changes and improvements. The new release should be available on or before June 1, 2012.

New Interview – Author M.R. Gott asks the Authors of the Morrigan’s Brood Series About Stuff

M.R. Gott, author of Where the Dead Fear to Tread (published September 6, 2011 by Untreed Reads), sent Heather and I a few questions for his blog, which we were happy to answer. In addition to our interview, M.R. has posted other interviews and information concerning the fantasy horror genre, as well as his book.

We know you are out there, and we would like to help you. OK… a show of hands of anyone who saw Dark Alliance: Morrigan’s Brood Book III and thought, “Gosh darn it, that sounds like a cool book, and it is so cheap, but books I and II are so expensive… maybe I should wait before plunging in… oh, and I hate eBooks…” Does this sound like you? (or at least some of it… OK, even if none if it applies to you, please continue reading… please.) Don’t worry, for we can help.

Series Order and Content

So, how many purists are out there who feel they have to read a series starting with the first book? Come on… show your hands! *sheepishly raises own hand* So why is that? Maybe you fear that if you read book III first that you will miss some key plot point and you won’t be able to figure out what is going on. Maybe you believe that you will miss key elements of characters’ back stories if you start with book III first. Perhaps you are just one of those A.R. people who has to go in order when reading a novel series or watching a TV or novel series. *sheepishly raises hand once again* Well, perhaps I (Christopher) can assuage your fears by explaining that the world won’t come to an end around you if you, who are new to the series, begin with book III. Here’s why…

Heather and I deliberately wrote books I and II (that’s Morrigan’s Brood and Crone of War) as a two-book series with its own self-contained plot threads. Of course we left in some threads to continue the series to the next book, but many of these threads are not critical if you pick up book III first. Also, we wrote book III assuming our readers picked it up without having any prior knowledge of the series. We cover characters’ back stories, to a degree, so you know who they are without having read a prior book. We even wrote two short stories, Madness & Reckoning, for those wanting a little more back story for some of our key characters, which you can find for free on Goodreads.

Book Pricing

Here is another reason why it is OK to start with book III… it is so much cheaper than books I or II. Why? Triscelle Publishing started with a new printer for book III that costs so much less per book than the previous printer. This has allowed Triscelle Publishing to lower the retail cost and also provide retailers with significant discounts. For example, Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II, which is 6×9 at 376 pages, retails for $19.99 USD on-line, but some retailers may sell it for as low as $17.99. By contrast, Dark Alliance: Morrigan’s Brood Book III, which is 6×9 at 360 pages, retails for $16.99, but retailers like Barnes & Noble are carrying it for $11.46… even as low as $9.99. This is because the books printed by the new printer cost less than half the price from the first printer. This gives the publisher flexibility to lower prices, making the books easier to afford.

You might ask how soon books I and II will be switched over to the new printer. Well, this is certainly in Triscelle Publishing’s plan, but I am not yet aware of the time table. Suffice it to say, Morrigan’s Brood would probably retail for $15.99 and Crone of War may retail for $16.99, which would be $3.00 off the cover price, but the discounts would also be more significant than they are today, so you might see $12.99 and $13.99 respectively. Progress is being made on revising both books for the re-release, and Morrigan’s Brood should be available in mid- to late-October; Crone of War release two might be available in December.

One other big advantage with book III with this new printer is that Dark Alliance will be printed in the UK, Australia, and the US. This should result in lower costs to international readers, as well as quicker delivery times. In fact, I just sent a copy Dark Alliance to a reviewer in the UK, and the book should be there Monday or Tuesday; had I shipped it from the US, it would have cost more and taken a few weeks to get there.

Bottom line: It’s OK to buy book III first, so enjoy it!
